Random fun shots from June

Lincoln still loves costumes. Can you see that he's wearing my shoes in this first one?

I think this one is funny because Lincoln's shirt is misbuttoned. Like father, like son...

Farms and Festivals

I guess June must be visit the animals month at Scherzerville.
First we went the the Midnight Sun Festival where they had a petting zoo with goats, chickens, rabbits and ducks

We all stood in the long line for a pony ride. A bucket of chalk made the time go a little faster for the kids and John and I speculated about how much money the pony rides made (40,000 people attended the 12 hour festival!)

When we got to the front of the line we saw a 2-day old horse

finally Lincoln got his turn on the pony.

I took pictures while Shiloh waited with Daddy and shouted "cowboy!"

From a 3 year old boy's perspective the best part of the festival was the big army and fire trucks...

Next was a trip to Calypso Farm. It's a cooperative farm outside of Ester run by volunteers who are paid in a share of the vegetables grown. Parents as Teachers had a group visit there today and Lincoln and Shiloh got to visit the animals and learn about where milk and eggs and wool come from.

Luna the goat munched her food while she got milked

Lincoln learned how the sheep's wool is carded so it can be spun into yarn

It was rainy the whole time and we left early because Shiloh's lips were blue from cold but it was FUN!

More summer sledding

Ruby and Maya came over for dinner last week. We enjoyed yummy ribs and fruit salad and then went sledding!

Playing outside and more conversations with Lincoln

I'm so happy summer is here! Every night after dinner the kids play outside while John and I move a few wheelbarrows of dirt. Here's a shot of our half-way-finished, never-ending landscaping project. The retaining wall didn't fall down during breakup: so far so good.

I was taking pictures of the kids playing in the sand when Shiloh suddenly stood up and started waving her arms like an octopus
Lincoln has been trying to ride his little bike without training wheels after we moved them to his new big-boy bike. He can ride halfway across the garage now and is becoming more and more familiar with the concept of braking to a halt

In an unrelated matter...
Here's an excerpt from an interesting conversation I overheard this past week

John: "Lincoln who are the Yankees?"
Lincoln: "Derek Jeter"
John: "And who else?"
Lincoln: silence
John: "Hideki Matsui?"
Lincoln: silence
John: "Lincoln, who are you named after?"
more silence
John: "You know, he's on the 5 dollar bill"
Lincoln: "Abraham"
John: "And what's his last name?"
Lincoln: "Hideki Matsui"
